JASSI SIDHU is somewhat of a well-kept secret, which is a surprise given he started his first band B21 in 1996 at the tender age of 17. His music crosses the boundaries seamlessly between traditional sounds and modern day dance beats, a fresh new sound for traditional Punjabi music. It is the sound of a generation of young British Asians everywhere.
After a successful and fruitful 5 year career with his band B21, Jassi went on to sing such anthems as ‘Darshan’ from the blockbuster film ‘Bend it like Beckham’ and quickly established himself as one of the UK’s premier vocalists in his field.
In 2002 Jassi launched his solo career and his award winning album ‘Reality Check’. The CD became an international best seller and paved the way to some notoriety in India, a previously unexplored territory and culminated in him winning the ‘Best International album Award’ at the prestigious ETC Punjabi music awards in 2004. An award his would win again in 2005 as ‘Best Vocalist’. Bhangra lovers world-wide couldn’t get enough and tracks such as ‘Ranja’, ‘Veer Ji’ and ‘Ama Ni Ama’ established him as an international star on the circuit.
He has performed at venues world-wide including cities all over Canada and the USA, Singapore and Malaysia, Africa, India and Europe. After a series of headline dates at some major UK festivals this year including Trowbridge Village Pump Festival, Cambridge (Heart of the World Festival) and Nottingham Riverside, he is becoming less pigeon-holed as an Asian artist and starting to take the UK mainstream by storm.
