Snapshots is composed & performed by Liz Liew, collaborating with choreographer & dancer Yuyu Rau. This live music & dance performance encapsulates universal moments in life and associated feelings: the innocence of childhood, first kiss, family bereavement and the birth of a child. Audiences will be taken on an evocative visual and aural journey, allowing them to reflect on their own experiences.

The soundtrack is part filmic, with nods to Impressionist composers Debussy and Ravel, mixed with melodies inspired from Liew's Chinese background. Scored mainly for piano with the addition of guzheng (Chinese zither), violin and xiao (Chinese flute), Rau will bring to life the stories of each snapshot, using a blend of dance styles including contemporary, Chinese Classical Dance and martial arts. Suitable for both outdoor arts festivals and indoor venues.

Liz Chi Yen Liew is a musician and composer. Her music is a charismatic blend of 'east meets west' rhythms and melodies inspired by her Chinese roots, blending Chinese instruments (erhu, jinghu, liuqin) with electric violins and electronics.

In 2008/2009 as one half of violin duo Chi2, she toured their exciting show Monkey King - A Modern Beijing Opera a brand new spin on the classic Chinese tale organised by Frusion, to rave reviews. Other commissions include a co-write and performance of a live soundtrack to classic Chinese film Song of the Fisherman at the Royal Opera House and co-writing the soundtrack to  Time is Like Water Flowing a poetic evocation of the four seasons collaborating with French aerial acrobats Les Passengers, Beijing visual artist Yan Huang and visuals duo 8gg culminating in 7 performances at London's O2 Arena as part of Greenwich and Docklands Festival. She was selected as one of PRSF's New Music 20x12 composers and commissioned to compose a 12 minute piece as part of the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad. Working with Andy Leung and Chinatown Arts Space, their piece XX/XY premiered to 12,000 people in London's Trafalgar Square in January 2012, was performed at the South Bank Centre in July and was featured on BBC2's Review Show and broadcast on BBC Radio 3. It has just been released on NMC Recordings.

Yuyu Rau trained in ballet, contemporary and Chinese classical dance in Taiwan and before moving to the UK in 2006, where she taught at Cloud Gate Dance School. Yuyu obtained an MA in Performance Dance at University of Chichester in 2008 and won Stepping East 2010 - British East Asian Choreographer showcase, commissioned by Step Out Arts. She has worked with a number of prestigious choreographers such as Wayne McGregor, Javier De Frutos and Luca Silvestrini. She has also danced for productions at Sadler's Wells and ROH2. Yuyu's choreographic work explores a fascination, for the artist, with the aesthetics of inter-cultural dance work that stems from her own experience of living in a different culture in the UK.
